The Sontarans are back, baby! Doctor Who: Flux is in full swing, with episode two, War of the Sontarans, bringing us Mary Seacole, timey-wimey stuff, and, erm, a wok.
After being hit with The Flux (aka the end of the universe), the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill), Dan (John Bishop) are thrown back in time to the Crimea.
To make things worse, Yaz and Dan are then displaced in time yet again and the Doctor discovers something has gone very wrong when the Sontarans rage battle across space and time.
The Doctor teams up with Mary Seacole (Sara Powell) – as you do, to fight them in the Crimea, while Dan reunites with dear old mum and dad to fight them in present day Liverpool.
Meanwhile, mysterious villains Swarm (Sam Spruell) and Azure (Rochenda Sandall) end up with Yaz and Vinder (Jacob Anderson) in their clutches and the Doctor left helpless
So, here are the key moments from the episode.
The Sontarans are back!
You’ve gotta love a bit of history re-writing and this reveal was a good one. As the Doctor’s displaced to the Crimea, she finds Mary Seacole and tries to get her bearings by asking about the Russian troops.
As we’re shown a soldier taking off his helmet, a bemused Mary reveals: ‘They’re not fighting Russians. They’re fighting Sontarans!’
There’s something very wrong with the Tardis
Something major has happened to the Tardis, with the Doctor shown struggling with it throughout the episode.
Of course, The Flux has wreaked havoc with time, but something’s also gone very wrong in the Temple of Atrapos that Yaz and Vinder have found their way to.
As the Temple breaks down and causes chaos in space and time, the pair are taken hostage by Swarm and Azure.
Mary Seacole is a badass
Need we say more? Nursing people back to health while helping to defeat the Sontarans is no easy feat.
Dan and Karvanista reunite
Our furry new fave wasn’t out of the picture for long as, shortly after Dan finds himself in a sticky situation, Karvanista (Craig Els) comes to the rescue.
Along the way, we also meet Dan’s mum and dad and see him taking on the Sontarans in his hometown.
However, Karvanista decides to do the noble thing at the end of the episode, keeping an eye on Earth while the Doctor and Dan go to find Yaz. We’re sure we haven’t see the last of him, though.
Yaz is is big trouble
By the end of the episode, Yaz and Vinder have been placed into the Temple and, with a click of Swarm’s fingers, we’re about to see ‘the full force of time’ blast through them.
Safe to say their lives are in danger – and the Doctor needs to think up something very quickly.
Doctor Who: Flux returns Sunday at 6:15pm on BBC One.
