Dragons’ Den watchers were perplexed when a pair requested for just £1 investment after delivering a massive rhyming presentation labelled ‘cringe’.
Charlene and Simon, husband and wife, presented a unique pitch to the Dragons after being inspired by their daughter Goldie.
‘Our question previously was, can children’s stories be sublime?’ the mother said as they entered the den.
SooperBooks is a book website that provides schools and parents with free children’s books that the pair has created.
Charlene began her history-making pitch, and spectators soon realised the entire thing will be made up of rhyming couplets.
Viewers took to X to vent their strong dislike for her pitching style, as Amy Joanne tweeted: ‘Jesus Christ the rhyming is annoying 😂.’
‘This is cringe inducing,’ shared Chloe while Kristian Ross wrote: ‘Hope nobody invests purely on this awful, awful rhyming pitch.’
‘Christ a rhyming pitch!’ added Sian Jasper with Pamela Doyle agreeing: ‘£1 ask is clever but the rhyming pitch is 🤮.’
After the rhyme, the pair confronted the Dragons’ questioning, asking for only £1 in exchange for 1% of the firm.
Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden raised their heads when the duo showed a Dragons Den book as part of their pitch.
Peter assured them that SooperBooks would go ‘down in history’ since the duo had only valued the company at £100, which was extremely low for the normal hopefuls.
Following additional interrogation, Simon disclosed that they already had two angel investors: Monzo CEO Tom Blomfield and Princess Beatrice.
‘Dragons, could you do me a favour? Could you come to the wall with me all of you?’ Peter asked in a first-ever for the BBC show.
All five Dragons left their chairs and went to the window to discuss what they intended to counteroffer the entrepreneurs, all working together.
While Steven Barlett questioned the company’s business plan, they returned to a weeping Charlene and Simon to announce that they would all be investing.
‘You showed us your baby and we loved it,’ said Deborah as Peter said for 1% each they would each invest £1, meaning the couple landed all five Dragons for 5% of the company.
