Gloria Hunniford has claimed Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford are ‘disappointed’ after being dropped from the Friday This Morning slot.
In a shock move, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary were confirmed to be filling the end of the week slot held by Ruth and Eamonn, starting in the new year.
The decision has divided fans of the show, even though Eamonn and Ruth will remain part of the This Morning family, filling in for main presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby over the school holidays.
‘That one was very hard to understand – I don’t fully understand the reasons behind it,’ Gloria told the Daily Mirror newspaper.
‘I’ve talked to Eamonn since, and he’s clearly disappointed.
‘I think they find it very difficult to understand why the change.’
However, Gloria added: ‘There are a lot of lovely new young presenters coming in, which is good. They’re trying to cater for every age group.’
Alison is already in ‘duty of care’ meetings with ITV after being trolled by critics on social media.
Her This Morning pals, including Josie Gibson and Matthew Wright, have subsequently leapt to the Big Brother star’s support, lambasting the haters online.
Following confirmation of the switch-up, Ruth and Eamonn both released matching statements on Twitter, posting: ‘It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January. We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a Ball you two !
‘It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term. (sic).’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
