Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are presenting This Morning on Friday amid rumours they were being replaced.

This week, This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby has been absent from the show for a couple days in a row, with presenters Alison Hammond and Davina McCall stepping in on Wednesday and Thursday to stand in for her alongside Phillip Schofield.

Yesterday, Phillip confirmed that his co-presenter would be returning to the show on Monday after having a ‘day off’.

On Friday, rather than present the show with another temporary co-presenter, Phillip will instead take a day off as well, with Ruth and Eamonn presenting This Morning together.

Their appearance on ITV’s This Morning follows rumours they were being ‘axed’ on the show and replaced by Alison and Dermot O’Leary.

A few days ago, ITV denied reports that the couple were being axed from the show, with a This Morning spokesperson saying in a statement: ‘We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.

‘Any additions to this line up will be announced in due course.’

Former This Morning presenter Fern Britton recently responded to the rumours of Ruth and Eamonn’s ‘axing’ from the ITV show, expressing her shock on Twitter.

After retweeting a story about their supposed removal from their typical slot, Fern tweeted: ‘Oh no?’

It’s said that Alison and Dermot impressed ITV bosses when they teamed up to present This Morning over summer when Holly and Phillip had a six-week break.

On yesterday’s show, Phillip became teary-eyed when a caller thanked him for ‘making a difference’ in her life.

The caller, called Michelle, explained that she had been shielding since February as she has a chronic health condition, stating that Phillip ‘brightens her day’ on This Morning.

Phillip appeared overcome with emotion, stating: ‘I don’t know what to say. That’s really lovely.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
