Eamonn Holmes mocks Good Morning Britain viewing figures as GB News show is praised by fans

Eamonn Holmes is settling into life at GB News after joining the channel recently, and he’s now appeared to mock Good Morning Britain viewing figures on social media.

The presenter seemed to take aim at the figures after moving to the rival broadcaster, after retweeting criticism levelled at his former employer.

The development comes after Daily Mail commentator Andrew Pierce tweeted on Wednesday, saying: ‘Talking @gmb with @susannareid100 @Kevin_Maguire about Prince Andrew whose court case went very badly last night in US.’

A follower then replied: ‘About as badly as #GMB viewing figures now you best jump ship Andrew go over to @EamonnHolmes new morning show on #GBNews.’

Eamonn then retweeted the post and commented with four grinning emojis and a thumbs up.

Before joining the network, Eamonn had been a staple on the ITV daytime show for 15 years along with his wife Ruth Langsford.

It was announced last year that Eamonn was quitting ITV, who he has worked with since 1993, to join GB News.

The 62-year-old presenter made his GB News debut on Monday morning.

The former This Morning host was joined by co-host Isabel Webster for the first episode of the channel’s programme titled Breakfast With Eamonn And Isabel.

‘I’ve spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups and GB News is one of the most exciting yet,’ Eamonn said after first announcing his move.

‘It’s just the kind of shake-up the industry needs. I’ve admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun.’

He added: ‘To me the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that’s exactly what GB News is all about.’

Eamonn’s exit from This Morning came after he and Ruth were replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond on their Friday slot in November 2020.

A spokeswoman for ITV said: ‘We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role.

‘As a duo, Eamonn and Ruth have been part of the This Morning presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show.

‘Ruth remains an important part of ITV Daytime both as a continuing member of the This Morning family and as an anchor presenter on Loose Women.’

Breakfast With Eamonn And Isabel airs on weekdays from 6am to 9.30am.
