Eamonn Holmes sneakily made a shady comment about This Morning ‘getting rid’ of he and Ruth Langsford, and it didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.
On Friday morning, Eamonn and Ruth hosted the latest episode of This Morning on ITV, discussing all things festive in the lead-up to Christmas next Friday.
At one point, Eamonn spoke about how he recently spotted a man selling Christmas trees at a discounted rate, with the trees going to buyers for half their usual price.
‘Well they’re struggling to get rid of them I suppose, aren’t they,’ Ruth commented.
‘I would say so darling, I’d say that’s the obvious conclusion,’ Eamonn responded, before making a cheepy swipe at the fact Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will be taking over his and Ruth’s Friday slot on This Morning from January 2021.
‘Which is why they’re getting rid of us on a Friday now after all this sort of chat,’ he added.
Several This Morning viewers noticed the brief remark made by Eamonn on the show, with one person praising him for ‘getting the Friday morning comment in’.
Last month, Ruth and Eamonn spoke out after news of Alison and Dermot’s appointment as Friday hosts on This Morning was confirmed.
Posting identical statements on Twitter, Ruth and Eamonn said: ‘It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.
‘We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a Ball you two! It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term.’
In another statement sent to Metro.co.uk, the couple said: ‘We absolutely love This Morning and are happy to be part of the This Morning Family.’
Alison said that she ‘never dreamt’ she would still be a part of This Morning after first joining 19 years ago.
Meanwhile, Dermot said he was ‘deeply thrilled and honoured’ by his new role.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Eamonn’s representatives and ITV for comment.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
