Emily Atack has spoken about being typecast before her stunt in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, revealing how acting opportunities had previously been hard to come by.
The actress, known for her performance as Charlotte Hinchliffe in Inbetweeners, said acting jobs ‘dried up’ before going into the jungle in 2018.
‘I’d been typecast as a blonde girl next door type. I was getting a bit older, things were getting a bit lower down,’ she told Alison Hammond on new podcast My Life in TV.
‘Those roles stopped coming in. I couldn’t play the sexy school girls anymore, the femme fatal sexy girl with the stockings on who seduces the male lead. It all dried up for me.’
Since leaving the jungle, Emily has been given a new show on ITV2, which combines a mix of stand-up and sketch comedy. She’s also a team captain opposite Laura Whitmore on Celebrity Juice.
But it wasn’t always that way. Emily spoke about her struggles before the jungle, saying she was ‘heartbroken’ and ‘lost in life’.
She said: ‘In this industry it’s easy to take things personally. I had no money and I was all heartbroken from a relationship. I was a bit lost in life.
‘I felt I wasn’t getting the jobs I should have been getting, all the jobs I would have got three or four years earlier. I really just hit a wall with everything. I thought, “I need some excitement in my life again, I need to pick it up.”
Emily appeared in the 2018 series of I’m A Celebrity, starring alongside the likes of Fleur East, John Barrowman, Noel Edmonds and eventual winner Harry Redknapp.
As well as her acting career, Emily is known for openly talking about dating and sex in her comedy and in interviews.
The Emily Atack Show is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
