Escape to the Country fans have targeted a young couple after they announced their large budget for their first property.
In the most recent episode of the long-running series, civil servant Anna and consultant Jack caught up with Briony May Williams.
The engaged pair, who both own flats in St Albans, revealed that they were seeking for a countryside hideaway in Buckinghamshire that could also accommodate their dog Dexter.
Their dream list included a house with plenty of outside space, four bedrooms, a utility room, and a spacious kitchen.
They also expressed their desire to reside near a local bar, which they referred to as the centre of the community.
However, when it came time to tell how much they were ready to pay, people watching at home were not only astonished, but also outraged.
The couple’s £850,000 budget sparked a strong reaction on social media.
‘Mum’s got Escape to the County on and a couple younger than me have just rocked up with a budget of £850,000 for their first home and let me tell you, the deep guttural “oh f*** right off” I just let out could be heard from space,’ Em posted on X.
‘Where on earth do two young kids get a budget of £850,000 in this day and age half of them can’t afford an ad free Netflix subscription,’ user Clazy questioned.
‘Don’t you hate it when 20 somethings have 850k at their disposal? Where’s the life suffering before success? 800,000 average price in Buckinghamshire. UK housing prices are obscene. Half a mil for a terraced property,’ Johnny Lee added.
However, others praised the couple for having an ‘appreciation of the countryside, lifestyle and architecture’, while some said those criticising the couple were ‘jealous and cruel’.
After viewing numerous properties, the couple chose not to place a bid on any of them, ultimately electing to purchase in Hertfordshire to be closer to their loved ones.
