Euphoria season 2: Fans ‘grieving’ main character death following explosive finale

Fans still don’t know how to feel about that shock death (Picture: HBO)

*Warning contains major spoilers for Euphoria season 2 episode 8!*

Fans predicted Euphoria’s season two finale would go out with a bang, but safe to say none of them predicted this would be the outcome…

The final chapter, titled All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned For A Thing I Cannot Name, picked up after Faye (Chloe Cherry) welcomed drug dealer Custer (Tyler Chase) into Fezco’s (Angus Cloud) home.

Ashtray (Javon Walton) had been watching him attentively, however, things took a sinister turn once he and Fezco realised that Custer had been working with the police.

Without a second thought, Ashtray stabbed Custer in the neck to Fez’s horror, but the noble protector insisted that he would take the fall and urged Ashtray to run.

Although he knew his brother was just looking out for him, Ashtray refused to back down and locked himself in the bathroom, and moments later multiple gunshots were fired back and forth between him and the police.

‘He’s just a kid, don’t shoot,’ exclaimed Fez who got shot in the hip. But despite putting up a good fight, Ashtray was killed.

Fans had been logging their suspicions from episode one, with some thinking Zendaya’s Rue Bennett would be the one dying, however, nobody for a second suspected it would be Ashtray – and it looks like some are struggling to come to terms with it.

Discussing the events that unfolded in the finale, one person wrote: ‘I don’t wanna go to work 😫 😩 I’m so tired and I’m dealing with the death of Ashtray. I’m grieving #Euphoria.’

‘Fez had to WATCH ASHTRAY BE KILLED. ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS PROTECT HIM. HE JUST WANTS TO KEEP THE ONES HE LOVES SAFE AND NOW ITS ALL OVER IM GOING TO SCREAM #Euphoria,’ added another.

One viewer weighed in: ‘how am i supposed to explain to my mother that i was sobbing because ashtray broke my heart in the season two finale without even speaking.’ (sic)

Speaking about his character’s shocking end, Javon told Esquire: ‘You know that Fez needs Ash, and Ash needs Fez. They both really rely on each other, so it’s going to be really hard for both of them.’

Although show creators confirmed season three is in sight, viewers will have to wait and see what lies ahead for Fez.

Elsewhere, the final instalment for season two saw Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) confronting his father Cal (Eric Dane), who infamously walked out of his family after coming clean about his hook-ups with young men and trans women.

Cal apologised to Nate for everything that had happened, but a vengeful Nate called the police on his father, which led to his arrest.

Rue also made amends with Elliot (Domonic Fike), after he told her best friend/girlfriend Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) that she had been using again.

Lexi Howard’s (Maude Apatow) school play got a frosty reception from her sister Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) who stormed the stage and accused her of ‘humiliating’ her peers, which led to her former bestie Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) chasing her off and beating her up after she found out Cassie and Nate had been seeing each other behind her back.

Following the wild commotion, a remorseful Jules sat down next to Rue and told her that she loves and misses her. Rue kissed her on the forehead and walked away, which suggests that was her way of saying goodbye.

Euphoria is available to stream on NOW and Sky Atlantic.
