Martin Compston reaches out to Scottish football fans in a new advert for Tennent’s lager
Line of Duty star Martin Compston uses his dulcet tones to soothe the nerves of Scotland ahead of their Euro 2021 match against Czech Republic on Monday in a new advert for Tennent’s Lager.
The actor, dressed in comfy pyjamas with a pint at his elbow, reads the short story 23 Years In The Making in the ad, following on from the brilliant viral video of his passionate celebration – while filming the hit crime drama – when Scotland qualified for the tournament in 2020.
‘Pre-match nerves are really kicking in now eh? It’s time to relax with a good book and a pint,’ Martin tells viewers in the clip before starting his story.
He reflects on the Scotland Men’s Team’s last appearance at a major finals back in 1998, before lamenting the beginning of a ‘major tournament drought’ and gives a nod to the ‘new heroes…like Robertson, Marshall, McTominay and Christie.’
The In Plain Sight actor then declares his home country is embarking on a ‘new chapter that sees us back where we belong, on the big stage with a team 5 million strong’.
Martin continues: ‘Now tomorrow’s game is certainly not one to miss, when we all come together and say, “C’mon Scotland! We’re made for this.”‘
Ending on a hopeful note, he says: ‘How will the story end? We’ll need to wait and see, but remember, sometimes dreams come true…even at Wembley.’
The TV star added: ‘It’s taken a while, but we’re finally here. It’s the night before Scotland takes on Europe and anticipation is at an all-time high for what lies ahead tomorrow.
‘I remember the same night in 1998, and it feels exactly the same – the build-up, the pre-match nerves and hopes building as we get set for the match.
‘Wherever you’re watching; at home, in the pub with a pint of Tennent’s, or for a lucky few, at Hampden – we’ve been waiting 23 years for this match to come, and only one thing is certain. We’re made for this.’
The rousing advert is available to watch on Tennent’s Lager social media channels.
