The stunning victory of Paul Gascoigne startled Scared of the Dark psychiatrist Dr. Tharaka Gunarathne.
The unconventional Channel 4 documentary follows celebrities adjusting to life in the dark for five days straight while live in The Bunker, a room outfitted with 50 infrared cameras and meant to block out all light.
The celebs must yell “I’m Scared of The Dark” in order to exit “The Bunker” in true I’m A Celebrity style. They are now led into the light at this point.
Former football icon Gazza, 55, was named series winner after experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. He received the majority of the votes from his co-stars, including Nicola Adams and Chloe Burrows.
Dr. T, who has been monitoring the celebrities’ every move alongside the show’s primary presenter, Danny Dyer, was certain that someone else would win the title.
He informed Metro.co.uk about his early predictions, saying, “Chris [McCausland] was one of my favourites.”
‘He has the ability to think logically and analytically, his body language was interesting as well.’
Due to retinitis pigmentosa, the 45-year-old comic gradually lost his vision between the ages of 16 and 21.
The hereditary condition affects the retina, a layer of light-sensitive tissue in the rear of the eye.
Speaking about Chris’ impact on the show, Dr T added: ‘I loved what he brought in, and the vulnerability that he shared about not seeing like everybody else. I thought he was going to win.’
On Monday’s segment of the show, Chris encountered former boxer Chris Eubank and got into a disagreement with him.
The actor addressed the 56-year-old boxer after he had already sobbed at the unexpected death of his son Sebastian, who passed away in 2021, for insulting the group and became irate.
‘I would like you to stop telling people how to behave and not be themselves,’ said comedian Chris.
‘This is people being themselves… you trample on their spontaneity and they need to be themselves.’
Later speaking in the confessionals, Chris admitted: ‘I don’t mind telling him.
‘I mean, he’s not going to knock me out is he? I’m the only one helping him get around – he’d be f***ed without me!’
After experts accused the series of being ‘damaging,’ a Channel 4 spokesperson said: ‘All contributors underwent a rigorous mental health screening before being cleared to take part in the show, while extensive welfare measures were in place throughout filming. Cast members were constantly monitored by a mental health practitioner to ensure their wellbeing, with support available to them before, during and after filming.’
Scared of The Dark returns tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
