Maryam Moshiri, a BBC star, continues to captivate audiences with her unique on-air choices.
Following a story on the European gull screaming championship, the news presenter decided to try his hand at emulating one.
The strange competition saw participants from all around the world attempting to properly duplicate the sound. Cooper, a nine-year-old from Derbyshire, won the junior category and delighted the judges.
Maryam, 46, appreciated the ‘uncanny’ impression and warned viewers that while she’d want to participate, it may be ‘career-ending’. She couldn’t resist the impulse for long, and we’re glad for that.
‘I can feel that you really want me to do an impression of a seagull so I’m going to give it a go,’ she said.
She then began to impersonate the animal with a loud ‘ha-ha-ha’, which we immediately want to set as our morning alarm.
‘Is that okay?’ she asked. It’s more than okay, Maryam.
‘I’m hearing in my ear that I’ve been sacked. Oh well,’ she joked.
‘C’est la vie, as they say.’
Maryam then returned to reading the news about Donald Trump’s court case, as if she hadn’t already filled the studio with squawking sounds.
The moment was praised after TV critic Scott Bryan shared the clip. Daniel Jae Webb said: ‘Honestly love this woman.’ While others described her as a ‘national treasure’ and remarked that the moment alone was worth the TV license fee.
Maryam is not only a brilliant news reader, but she is also infamous for inadvertently causing pandemonium on the BBC programming.
In December, Maryam started the lunchtime news by giving the middle finger.
Maryam subsequently apologised for the error, claiming that she had humorously counted down, ending in pulling her middle finger for the number one, and had never intended for the moment to appear.
Months ago, Maryam was reporting on a supermoon, but the broadcaster was unable to provide images.
That was no problem for Maryam, who simply formed her hands into a circular shape to simulate what it could look like.
‘It looked a little bit like this, there you go – supermoon,’ she said while keeping a straight face.
Never change Maryam!
