Tim Davie, the BBC’s chief executive, has stated that the network is in contact with the family that claims Huw Edwards paid a young person for obscene photos.
Since the claims were initially revealed in The Sun, the BBC’s director-general, 56, has been “in touch” with the complainant who claimed Edwards, 61, paid £35,000 for sexual images.
‘Since that weekend, we have been in touch with the complainant, and we want to be involved and adequately listening and understanding their concerns,’ he said before a pre-arranged House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee hearing.
The young person’s family initially complained to the BBC in May, and the corporation stated that it attempted to contact them twice.
The young person at the focus of the scandal later stated via attorneys in a letter to BBC News that nothing improper or criminal occurred with the then-unnamed broadcaster.
The Metropolitan Police declared on Wednesday that Edwards had committed no criminal violation, and The Sun claimed it has no intentions to publish any more claims.
According to BBC News, a second individual claimed they felt frightened by texts from Edwards.
According to BBC Newsnight, one former and two current workers of the organisation allege they received communications from the senior broadcaster that made them feel uneasy.
The BBC is still doing ‘fact-finding’ investigations, which Davie told the committee might take ‘weeks, a number of months, or possibly longer’ since he did not have ‘control over all the circumstances.’
He added: ‘My main priority is to be fair and get all the information into that process and act judiciously.’
The Met Police investigated the claims before opting not to pursue them further after discovering no proof of a crime being committed.
Edwards was named last week in a statement to the PA news agency by his wife, Vicky Flind, who stated at the time that he is getting in-patient medical care and is suffering from “severe mental health concerns.”
Leading personalities in the media, like Piers Morgan and Dan Walker, have expressed their sympathy for Edwards.
