A year and a half later, Gal Gadot still can’t live that Imagine video down, becoming the target of fresh mockery in a new Family Guy PSA about the Covid-19 vaccine.
Earlier this week, Family Guy, the adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, released a public service announcement stressing the importance of having the coronavirus vaccine.
In the PSA, characters Stewie and Brian discuss Peter’s hesitancy to have the jab, outlining why the vaccine is so essential in a bid to prevent further transmission of the virus.
At one point in the video, Stewie explains that if the virus mutates into variants that the vaccine is not effective against, the world might end up ‘back where we started’… when Gal recruited a plethora of celebrities to take part in a widely-panned video where they sang the lyrics to John Lennon’s Imagine.
‘Getting the shot not only protects him, also the people around him,’ Stewie says in response to Peter’s doubts.
‘But even more importantly, if the virus is allowed to spread through an unvaccinated population, it could mutate into a variant that the vaccines might not protect against. And then we’re right back where we started. Gal Gadot singing Imagine. We cannot let that happen!’
The video even featured a cartoon version of the Wonder Woman star, smiling at the camera as she filmed her portion of the song.
Gal was a good sport about the ridicule, responding to the PSA by urging people to watch it.
‘I promise I’ll NEVER do that again if you get vaccinated! Watch the whole video,’ she said.
‘Since you’re vaccinated, we’ll forgive you,’ the official Twitter account for Family Guy responded.
Family Guy creator Seth recently expressed his frustration over the coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic by Fox News in the US, explaining how it inspired the vaccine PSA.
‘That’s why we did this Family Guy PSA about vaccination,’ he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
‘Because I looked around and I saw everyone else at Fox Corp doing their part to get good science out there and be responsible with their platforms.
‘And looking down the barrel of that kind of peer pressure, I said, “Well gosh, we’ve got to do something too.”‘
Family Guy is available to watch on ITV Hub.
