Finding Alice star Isabella Pappas has revealed that she found it ‘weird’ her character Charlotte didn’t cry following the mysterious death of her father.
The new ITV series, which begins tonight, focuses on the sudden death of Charlotte’s dad Harry (Jason Merrells) and how her mum Alice (Keeley Hawes) has to pick up the pieces in his wake.
Alice discovers more and more about her husband’s life after his passing – some of it troubling – while she and those around her often use humour as a coping mechanism.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about her ‘complex’ character, Isabella began: ‘It wasn’t like any other teenage character I’d ever read for. She’s not overly emotional, which is something that’s quite interesting.
‘I found it weird that she doesn’t cry but the character is actually really interesting.
‘It was literally written in the script that she is blank and has no real emotional response to anything which I think also adds to the mystery.’
Charlotte went on to add that by the end of the series viewers will see why her character lacks so much emotion.
‘She definitely changes,’ the actress added. ‘I won’t say too much but she definitely changes in the last episode.
‘You will find out why she gets so emotionally stifled and why she’s just kind of terrified of her emotions.’
Isabella and Keeley star in the drama alongside some of the national treasures of British film and TV, including Joanna Lumley and Nigel Havers.
The pair play Alice’s parents Sarah and Roger, coming to terms with the death of their daughter’s partner.
Gemma Jones and Kenneth Cranham also place Alice’s in-laws, Minnie and Gerry.
Finding Alice returns on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
