First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has announced he’s ‘back home’ after he was hospitalised with ‘complications’ relating to his bowel cancer.
The 47-year-old, who works as the barman on the popular Channel 4 series, announced he had been diagnosed with the disease in September last year.
He recently underwent surgery to have a tumour removed and was said to be keeping ‘positive’.
However, on Tuesday, Merlin shared a post from a hospital bed, writing: ‘Oh Squibwibble,’ with a fingers crossed emoji.
The post included a photo of himself laying in a hospital bed with a unicorn face mask on and a bandage on his hand.
Now, Merlin is back home again but will be returning to hospital on Friday.
He shared to Instagram: ‘Home again. Back again Friday.
‘Had a very very small #anastamoticleak with abscess and collection.
‘It’s a dreaded complication with any bowel resection.’
Merlin added that his ‘awesome surgeon’ is ‘confident we can fix it.’
He continued: ‘For now it means having more tubes lodged up my arse and regular hospital visits for mini-operations until it’s healed.
‘Strict rest only orders for me too.
‘I’m alive, which is the main thing,’ he concluded.
He later shared another post to Instagram, thanking fans: ‘Thank you everyone for wishing me well x You’ve all cheered me up immensely!’
It comes just weeks after First Dates star Fred Sirieix promised to keep in touch with his ‘incredible’ co-star, and said the barman is ‘incredibly stoic in the face of what’s happening to him’.
‘I really love him. He’s incredibly positive and pragmatic as well. I’m just not surprised because that’s the type of guy he is. You can always rely on Merlin,’ Fred told the Mail Online.
He revealed that he has been speaking over the phone and texting with Merlin, ‘making sure he’s ok’.
Merlin underwent surgery in April after raising awareness during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
After the surgery, he thanked the NHS for ‘literally saving my life’.
First Dates is available to watch on All4.
