First look at After Life season 3 as final trailer drops, but don’t worry – the ‘dog does not die’

The first look at After Life season three is finally here as Ricky Gervais makes his return as the quick-witted Tony Johnson for the last time.

The dramatic six-parter will see the journalist coming to terms with his wife’s death with the help of his four-legged sidekick Brandy and, while the promo doesn’t give too much away, viewers will see Tony’s character development progresses significantly in the upcoming series.

Netflix shared the teaser on social media and the streaming service wanted to make one thing abundantly clear before the dark comedy makes its debut.

Alongside the tweet, the caption read: ‘The official trailer for the final season of AFTER LIFE is here. Remember, the dog does not die. We promise. On Netflix 14 Jan.’ Phew.

After Life premiered back in 2019 and has received critical acclaim from fans and A-list celebrities. The show has also broken a string of records one of which includes the popular programme reaching 100million views on Netflix.

Ricky recently shared the achievement on Twitter and thanked his fans for being ‘the best’ ever.

Although viewers would love to see more of Tony in Tambury, the frontman stressed in May 2020 that the third chapter will ‘definitely be the last.’

The Office star previously opened up on the ‘daunting’ task of producing another season.

Speaking to, he said: ‘You put everything into everything you do and you burn bridges and you work yourself into corners because it was right at the time, so it’s really got to be wanted.’

He also said that he wrote season two to prove that ‘no-one just snaps back from depression.’

The fifth episode of season two saw the death of Tony’s father in a nursing home after living with dementia. The funeral didn’t take place at the end of the last season, so we expect the scene may play out in the new instalments.

Seasons 1 and 2 of After Life are available on Netflix and season 3 begins on January 14.
