Former Love Island winner Kem Cetinay has revealed what happens to the contestants in the days before they head into the villa.

The hit ITV dating show is back tonight (June 28) with a new group of singletons looking for love and Kem, who won in 2017 alongside Amber Davies, has a unique insight into the last minute prep before the big day.

Appearing on Capital Breakfast, he told hosts Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield: ‘Do you know what guys, I have to be a little bit careful because every time I get asked these questions I always get myself in trouble for giving away secrets.

‘Do you know what, they’re all just kind of… not holding pens… But they’re kind of in hotels or apartments waiting to go in so they don’t see each other.

‘Obviously you’ve gotta keep them apart. So they’re probably all just waiting, sun-bathing now, waiting to go in.’

The 25-year-old star also explained that ‘everyone’s different’ when it comes to finding out whether or not you’re in the villa or on the reserve list.

ore he went in,’ he said. ‘I knew quite a while, I knew a couple of months before, to give me a chance to get in the gym and that.

‘Everyone’s different really. It all depends. Some people know really early, some people know the day before.’

Kem insisted he never saw any of the other Islanders before meeting them in the villa, with bosses making sure contestants were in their own little world.

He added: ‘You literally see nothing from when you fly out there. You’re kinda just in an apartment waiting. So you don’t know anything about anyone until you walk down them stairs.’

And it seems there is some jealousy when it comes to previous stars as Kem admitted to being slightly envious a year after he took the crown.

He said: ‘Do you know what, to be honest, the first year I did. A little bit. The first year, like the year after I went on, and I’d just started The Morning After show I was a bit like [exhales] “That’s my bed! Is that my bed? That’s my seat! I think that’s my toothbrush!”

‘But now I like it. Now I don’t mind it, now it’s fine. I don’t think I could do it if I went in again.’

Kem ruled out the chances of him going back in, and he joked he simply ‘got lucky’ the first time round as his game is much worse nowadays.

Asked if he’d have another go on Love Island, he insisted: ‘No, because I think my game’s got progressively worse as the years have gone on. I think I’d probably be out of it in a week. I just got lucky!’

Love Island starts tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
