Former This Morning host Fern Britton has responded to reports that Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford have been axed from the ITV show.
The couple, who usually present This Morning every Friday, are reportedly being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
They have been presenting the show for 14 years.
While Eamonn and Ruth are yet to comment on the rumours, their former colleague Fern, who left This Morning in 2009, has expressed her shock at the news.
Fern retweeted a post from The Sun columnist Dan Wooton, who tweeted: ‘What appalling treatment of Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford by This Morning and ITV.
‘They have been absolute loyal rocks to that show through turmoil and are beloved behind the scenes. Sad to see.’
Fern simply captioned the tweet with: ‘Oh no?’
Former Big Brother contestant Alison has also been hosting segments for the show since 2003, and presented her own documentary Back To School earlier this year.
An insider said: ‘They have real warmth. It’s time for a change and they are perfect.’
They added to The Mirror: ‘Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made.’
Dermot, meanwhile, is best known for presenting The X Factor.
Married couple Ruth and Eamonn first joined This Morning in 2006 and have been hosting the Friday programme and school holidays ever since, with Holly, 39, and Phil, 58, presenting Monday to Thursday.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured that Eamonn and Ruth would be leaving the show, with the Irish star addressing the claims on Twitter.
Fans were worried about the fate of the two, with one tweeting: ‘Executives at @thismorning best not be trying to axe @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL to fill their diversity quota.
‘They’re brilliant hosts and nothing about the show needs changing! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! @ITV#ThisMorning#ITV ‘.
Eamonn saw the post and responded with the praying hands emoji.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
