Four Lives is the BBC’s chilling drama set to focus on the families and loved ones of Grindr Killer Stephen Port’s victims Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor.

The three-part drama will follow the families as they tirelessly work to uncover the truth about what had happened to their lost sons, brothers, and friends in the face of a now widely condemned police investigation.

Written by Jeff Pope and Neil McKay, Four Lives boasts of a star-studded cast that includes Sheridan Smith and Stephen Merchant.

Here’s everything you need to know about the cast and where you’ve seen them before.

What is the plot of Four Lives?

Four Lives tells the story of the four men killed by Stephen Port: Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor, and their families and friends who worked tirelessly to find out what happened to them.

The drama begins on Monday, January 3 (Picture: BBC)

From Jeff Pope and Neil McKay, the award-winning team behind The Moorside and Appropriate Adult, the new factual drama will go beneath the headlines and focus on the fight to uncover the truth about what had happened to the victims.

The synopsis for episode one teases: ‘When two young men are found dead in London, the police blame their deaths on overdoses. Their loved ones are unconvinced and try to find out the truth.’

‘Another man’s body is found in the same place in London, but again the police rule it an overdose,’ synopsis for episode two reads. ‘Meanwhile, the suspicions of the previous two men’s families continue to rise.’

The summary for the third and episode reads: ‘A fourth man’s body is found, and the victims’ families want answers. Stephen Port is arrested, but securing a guilty conviction for the murder of all four men is far from certain.’

Who is in the cast for Four Lives?

Stephen Merchant plays the serial killer and serial rapist Stephen Port in Four Lives.

‘This is a story that can’t be ignored – how four young lives were lost and their families’ brave attempt to uncover what happened,’ he said after landing the role.

‘This factual drama will shed light on their story, so it’s a privilege to be a part of telling it with the brilliant combination of Jeff Pope, Neil McKay, and the BBC.’

Stephen has starred in a number of television shows over the years, including Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, and An Idiot Abroad. Over on film, he’s appeared in Hot Fuzz, Fighting With My Family, and Jojo Rabbit.

He also was the co-writer and co-director of The Office alongside Ricky Gervais.

Sheridan Smith plays Anthony Walgate’s mother Sarah Sak in the series.

‘I love playing real-life characters – especially an inspirational woman like Sarah Sak – but with it comes responsibility,’ Sheridan said of the role.

‘Along with the other families, Sarah went through so much heartache and it would have been easy for her to just accept what she was being told by the police, but something inside made her keep fighting for her son.’
