Freddie Flintoff shared how he really reaped the rewards whilst taking part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’s Australian version back in 2015, which he went on to win.

The former England cricketer was crowned King of the Jungle at the end of the first season of Australia’s I’m A Celeb, filmed in South Africa.

But more than five years on from the win, he’s admitted how he cleverly worked out how to make the most of his time in the jungle, which led him to victory.

Speaking to Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, the Top Gear star described the jungle as ‘the easiest month’ of his life and explained his strategy which saw him take the crown.

He said: ‘I did the jungle in Australia and it was the easiest month of my life. It was amazing. I just laid there and did nothing for a month.

‘I had to eat a few things and do a few challenges, but it was amazing. There are not many times in life you get the chance to do nothing, and I took it up!’

He continued: ‘The thing about it was, it was a month in Australia, and the first two weeks you’re on a fixed contract, and fixed-rate, so I just got a bit of sleep, and when they went to day-rate, with people getting voted out, I put a shift in!

‘I was sat there thinking, “You know what, if I stay another couple of days, we might go on holiday when I get back! If I’m in til Monday, I’ll get the patio done!”’

Even though Freddie has already done the jungle once, it seems he’s someone fans are keen to see take part in the UK series.

In a recent Betfair survey, he was named the sportsperson viewers would most like to see try out a Bushtucker Trial, with Tom Daley in second and Paul Gascoigne in third.

The show is going to return in just a matter of weeks with a brand-new celebrity line-up, but who will be looking to be crowned the King or Queen of the Castle?

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! returns later this year to ITV.
