Carol McGiffin and Charlene White didn’t see eye to eye on Thursday’s episode of Loose Women as the pair got into a heated clash over Boris Johnson’s latest speech.
The two panelists appeared on the daytime show with strong opinions about the Prime Minister’s build back better campaign, leading to a pretty awkward interaction.
Mr Johnson’s latest speech at the Conservative Party conference saw him discuss plans to level up parts of the UK, after decades of dithering.
After claiming his party had ‘got Brexit done’ and ‘got the vaccine rollout done’, he said they were well-placed to tackle the social care crisis.
However, his remarks came as the country remains plagued by fuel and food shortages, warnings of empty shelves at Christmas, and faces a looming cull of 100,000 pigs.
While Charlene seemed to be in support of Mr Johnson’s speech, Carol wasn’t impressed.
‘This to me looks like another distraction, let’s all talk about beavers while the country falls apart and Boris Johnson stands there making jokes, and everybody thinks it’s hilarious,’ Carol fumed.
‘I’m absolutely fuming, my head is exploding.’
‘I’m sure these people don’t even understand why they voted for him, the man just generates slogans and that’s it,’ she added.
Presenters Kéllé Bryan and Sunetra Sarker appeared to agree with Carol, with Kelle saying: ‘There are many things that we need answers to right now, I felt like he was being a real Etonian.’
Agreeing with Kelle’s statement, Sunetra responded: ‘It’s a show, he put on a show. It was a performance.’
While the majority were in agreement with Carol, Charlene believed the Prime Minister gave a good speech as everyone is still talking about it.
‘The reality of it is, he is a very good politician, people voted for him, and when you’re looking at those popularity polls, they’re not doing too badly,’ Charlene insisted.
Carol isn’t the first among the panel to call out Mr Johnson this week. In Wednesday’s episode Frankie Bridge expressed that she felt the Prime Minister doesn’t deserve respect at the moment.
This came after BBC4 presenter Nick Robinson told Mr Johnson to pipe down as they spoke at the annual Conservative Party conference in Manchester this week.
She said: ‘I think everyone’s had enough. I think the issue is yes, he should have a level of respect but I just don’t think he warrants it lately.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
