Ruth Jones, the star of Gavin and Stacey, appears to have shot down speculation that the popular television programme may return for a Christmas special in 2024.
It was previously reported that a holiday episode of the BBC sitcom would run later this year, with the majority of the ensemble, including co-creators Ruth and James Corden, returning despite a bidding battle with Netflix.
However, the actress has recently stated that the plans are not yet final.
She declared on the radio that the report was’sadly a rumour’.
‘If there was something to say on that front, James and I would happily announce it,’ she told RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday, February 14.
When the report was brought up to Ruth, 57, in the interview, she quipped: ‘Where’s this come from?’
The Nessa star continued: ‘When he [James] came back from America, we went for lunch in London a few months ago and we got papped.
‘And then the next thing is, “Oh my god, they must be writing more Gavin and Stacey,” which is lovely. It’s lovely that people love it and they’re so desperate for it.’
This makes it much more difficult to decide what to trust.
Deadline previously reported that a new episode of Gavin and Stacey will be recorded this summer, five years after the show’s last Christmas special.
According to the article, the majority of the primary performers would reprise their roles, including Gavin (Mathew Horne), Stacey (Joanna Page), Smithy (James), and Nessa (Ruth).
In the show’s last episode, Nessa proposed to Smithy. However, it concluded on an excruciating cliffhanger, leaving spectators to wonder what occurred next.
In April of last year, James said that he and Ruth had reconnected over Christmas and rehashed their famous cooperation on the show.
I know it will be a disappointment, but we didn’t talk about it in life-growing forms,’ he told The Sun at the time.
Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
