Gavin And Stacey’s Joanna Page has crushed hopes of another episode just weeks after James Corden hinted one last chapter could be on the cards.
The actress, who plays Stacey Shipman in the beloved BBC comedy, was quizzed by Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy on whether the show could return for another innings after last year’s Christmas special as she appeared on today’s Sunday Brunch.
‘I haven’t heard of any special,’ Joanna told the presenters.
‘I don’t know that there’s any special coming up or anything. I’m the same as everything else, if I hear anything I do, and if I don’t, I don’t.’
She added that she ‘can’t believe’ that last years special will be aired on BBC One again this year.
‘I think I can watch it now this year and just relax,’ she shared.
Joanna’s comments come after Gavin And Stacey co-creator James suggested the show could come back for one final blowout.
‘The next one will really be the last, final part,’ James told Metro.co.uk. ‘And that is a little too much pressure for my chest to take at the moment, if I’m honest, in amongst the anxiety of 2020.
‘If I had any notion of trying to make another Christmas special I don’t think I’d be able to breathe. So we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I promise you, we won’t lead you over that bridge unless we think it will be worth the journey.’
Despite the demand for a new Gavin And Stacey special, Rob Brydon, however, is torn over reunion plans.
‘I’m always torn between wanting to get off while they still want more, but at the same time, come back and do it again because it was so enjoyable,’ he told us.
‘So I wouldn’t be surprised if one day they write another special, but it’s certainly not in the pipeline.’
Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 9.30pm on Channel 4.
