Good Morning Britain had a blast from the past on Wednesday morning after a guest thought they were speaking to former host Piers Morgan.
During a discussion about the government’s handling of the fuel crisis and HGV driver shortage, one of their guests dropped a clanger when he accidentally called Alastair Campbell by Piers’ name by mistake.
After almost uttering ‘Piers’ instead of Alastair, who was actually hosting the show alongside Susanna Reid, the pair’s other guest, Andrew Pierce, was seen waving his arms and going: ‘Who? Who? Who? Who’s that?!’
Susanna then joked: ‘He’s completely changed his programme!’ to which Andrew added: ‘It’s a distraction technique!’
However, all that talk of Piers managed to confuse Andrew too, as in his next sentence he too almost called Alastair by Piers’ name.
Alastair then yelled in mock annoyance: ‘Stop calling me Piers, for god’s sake!’, to which Susanna quipped: ‘The ghost of Piers Morgan still exists on this programme!’
Andrew then told him: ‘You look so similar – you just look a bit older,’ to which Alastair joked: ‘What do you mean, I’ve only got two chins.’
Piers quit Good Morning Britain in March after refusing to apologise on air to Meghan Markle after questioning her claims she felt suicidal.
His comments came after she and Prince Harry had shared a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey about why they decided to walk away from the royal family.
Piers got into a heated debate with Alex Beresford on the show, which led to him storming off set, and later announcing he was stepping down from the show after six years.
The presenter has since been announced for a show on talkTV, which is being launched by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK in 2022.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
