The professional dancer is currently staying with the Fletchers after being rushed to hospital earlier this week when she had a flare up of her Crohn’s Disease.
It came days after Tom and Amy were eliminated from the latest series of Strictly after landing in the bottom two alongside Rhys Stephenson.
Detailing the professional dancer’s health emergency, Tom’s wife Giovanna said on Good Morning Britain: ‘They were dancing, they kept that up and I think that’s so good when you’re doing that show and there’s all these endorphins running through you, to suddenly stop isn’t that great.
‘But she had a flare up last week and Tom was with her, Zara Davis was with her, they were out on a walk when it started.
‘It was so bad she had to get an ambulance and then stay in hospital. Since then, everyone on Strictly’s in bubbles, she can’t travel to the Midlands or Wales, we just want her to stay with us.’
Robert Rinder, who was guest presenting on GMB, then quipped: ‘This is the opposite of the Strictly curse, you’ve actually moved her in.’
He was of course referring to the so-called ‘Strictly curse’ in which celebrities have struck up a romance with their pro dance partners.
Giovanna laughed it off and joked: ‘Exactly, it’s more of a hostage situation possibly. But I do think that’s something that’s not as focused on, the friendships that can be made through Strictly.
‘We absolutely adore her, for us it’s not a Strictly curse, we’ve actually gained a new member.’
The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star added that Amy is on the mend and has ‘colour in her cheeks again’.
Giovanna revealed: ‘She is good. She was sat on the sofa last night… She has still got her hot water bottle and every now and then you can see she is in pain. People with Crohn’s are living with pain. But it is nice to see the pink going back into her cheeks.’
Amy previously thanked Tom and Giovanna for giving her all the love and care and revealed that she is on the road to recovery.
Sharing a carousel of pictures on her Instagram, including a selfie from a hospital bed, she wrote: ‘Thanks for the all messages over the weekend. Unfortunately, I was missing from the show as I had an unexpected Crohn’s flare up and hospital admission in which I received unbelievable care.
‘I’m recovering very well and certainly being well looked after and look forward to returning to the dance floor.
‘Big thanks to lovely @saradaviescc and @tomfletcher for taking care of me (of all the days to be poorly, Ben was in Blackpool with the dance school).’
Amy continued: ‘To the Fletchers who made sure I had everything and more at the hospital, have brought me back to theirs where the whole family are giving me all the love, care, burnt toast (Tom), unlimited supply of @mrsgifletcher clothes along with @tomfletcher sock choice😜 you could possibly need, lots of drawings and pretend injections from my new doctors Buzz, Buddy and Max.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
