Matt Hancock was pronounced a ‘d-head’ live on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain as guests Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire weighed in on his upcoming I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! appearance.
The former Health Minister has landed in Australia ahead of the ITV series launching on Sunday and was pictured grinning for cameras after defending his decision for signing up.
People up and down the country are furious over Mr Hancock going on the show, and Pierce and Maguire were no different as they warned audiences he will not be well-liked.
‘We’ve known Matt Hancock a long time,’ Pierce began. ‘When they see him warts and all, it will not be nice, trust me.’
Agreeing with his co-star (for once), Macguire nodded, adding: ‘He is a prize prat.’
‘He’s a d-head!’ Pierce said.
‘The more you’ll see the less you’ll like him,’ Maguire went on.
At this point, presenter Susanna Reid was forced to step in before any expletives were dropped.
‘Do you know what?’ she said. ‘I feel sorry for the guy’.
Despite the backlash, Mr Hancock has defended his upcoming I’m A Celebrity appearance, claiming it will help him communicate with the British people, including those who are politically disengaged.
‘Where better to show the human side of those who make these decisions than with the most watched programme on TV?’ he said.
‘And there are many ways to communicate. It’s one of the many important things I learnt during the pandemic.’
The politician, who was immediately suspended from the Conservative Party for joining the ITV show, continued: ‘It’s as clear as day that politicians like me must go to where the people are — particularly those who are politically disengaged. We must wake up and embrace popular culture.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
