Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has admitted that homeschooling her two children has been a ‘struggle’ during lockdown while her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital.
Kate shares two children, Darcy, 14, and 11-year-old Billy with husband Derek, who is currently still in intensive care after battling complications from coronavirus.
Speaking on Friday’s GMB alongside her co-host Ben Shephard, the duo discussed how they were finding homeschooling after schools were forced to shut.
‘We have made it to Friday. A collective I think sigh of relief to anybody who’s locked into the torture of homeschooling,’ Kate began.
‘I think the first time around, I was somewhat distracted at the time, a lot of people found it quite nice.
‘The sun was shining, they thought a great time with the children and see what those teachers are doing and quickly realised how brilliant teachers are.’
‘This time around it’s a real struggle, isn’t it?’ she added.
Weighing into the discussion Ben said: ‘I think it’s really hard because of the weather particularly. I think the second time around and the kids are itching just to get back to school.’
‘They just want to see the other kids don’t they and it feels like here we go again,’ Kate continued.
It comes after Kate shared that she has been unable to see Derek in hospital in the wake of the tighter lockdown restrictions in the UK.
The hospital where her husband is being treated has stopped loved ones from entering the premises amid a rise in cases.
Derek is currently free of coronavirus but is still thought to be in a ‘state of minimal consciousness’ after emerging from a deeper coma last year.
‘We’re into lockdown, no visits at all, which I hope doesn’t continue for the whole of lockdown because I think that will be very impactful’ the presenter revealed on GMB.
‘Now, I don’t know whether it’s every hospital, but certainly where Derek is being treated there are now no visitors at all, which is tough.’
Good Morning Britain airs daily at 6am on ITV.
