Gogglebox viewers were left divided last night after the Channel 4 show aired a rather graphic snake-hunting scene.
The Gogglebox cast were even left screaming as they struggled to watch the programme titled Swamp People: Serpent Invasion.
The beginning of the clip showed the snakes devouring their prey as the voiceover explained that the python population in Florida is too high.
As a result, the country even started a state-sponsored cull in 2017, in a bid to stop the serpent invasion.
The hunters, Chase, Bruce and Zak can also be heard talking about how much money they can earn from catching the snakes.
After they managed to capture four pythons, Bruce explained that he wanted to kill and eat one of them.
Another hunter called Bill can be seen cutting into the snake as he said: ‘This is about as fresh as it gets, this thing is still moving.’
Some viewers found the segment about snake hunting very distressing, one even said they had to switch the programme off.
‘Very disappointed in #Gogglebox showing people in America murdering snakes for money… and then eating them,’ one viewer tweeted.
‘I had to turn off as I just can’t bear watching people abusing innocent animals.’
‘Why is this even on TV?’ another commented.
While one added: ‘So disgusted in this. The snakes are just doing what comes natural to them!’
Despite the backlash from some viewers, other fans couldn’t help but laugh at Pete and Sophie’s reaction to the men attempting to capture the snakes.
One commented: ‘Best part of Gogglebox tonight was Pete saying “I don’t mind serpents” cue a snake flying into the camera and he starts screaming.’
Another said: ‘Watching @PeteandSophie reaction to the snakes on #Gogglebox is hilarious.. Those 2 crack me right up.’
One added: ‘I just laughed so so much, thank you both.’
Gogglebox is available to watch on All 4.
