Good Morning Britain went dark only moments before Belinda Carlisle was scheduled to appear on the show on Wednesday.
Susanna Reid, the show’s host, announced in the final 10 minutes that the broadcast was experiencing a technical fault after the lights went out.
‘The lights have just gone out, but we have a super star here to brighten everything up,’ she told viewers before introducing the Heaven Is A Place On Earth singer, who joined both Reid and her co-host Ed Balls in the studio.
‘Good morning, Belinda,’ Reid then said. ‘You need to shine through the darkness because the lighting desk just crashed.’
Fortunately, the technical malfunction did not interfere with Belinda’s time on air, and she was able to discuss being a member of the historic supergroup she shares with Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, and Cyndi Lauper.

When asked whether she’d like to sing live on stage as a foursome, she answered audiences: ‘Of course I would. It would be incredible. Who knows, perhaps next year.’
Today’s Good Morning Britain programme was poignant, with Reid leaving the studio to console the mother of missing X Factor contestant Levi Davis.
Julie, Levi’s mother, appeared on the show to ask for aid in finding her son, who went missing in Barcelona, Spain, in October.
Julie began to cry during her interview as she recalled the last time she saw the missing rugby player, with Reid leaning across the desk to grasp her hand.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
