Great British Bake Off fans were left seriously shocked as judge Prue Leith revealed how old she is.

During Tuesday night’s quarter-final show, Prue had set the bakers a particularly tricky technical challenge where they had to try and make a Sussex Pond pudding.

Just watching it looked near enough impossible and the stress of the bakers trying to perfectly steam their puds was real, with judges Prue and Paul Hollywood being left pretty underwhelmed by their efforts.

To quote Prue, the bakers ‘made a complete mess of it’, but viewers were quick to let her tough criticism go, as they were too preoccupied with finding out how old she really is.

While discussing her love of a Sussex Pond pudding, a traditional 17th century dessert, Prue dropped in conversation with hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas that she is in fact 80 years old.

Nobody seemed to care that Paul remarked he was 40 and still loved a steam pudding, with pretty much everyone flocking to Twitter to share their shock over Prue’s age.

‘Prue is 80?! What the…? I can’t have heard that right! #GBBO#BakeOff,’ tweeted one fan, while another said: ‘Wait what? Prue is 80??!! #bakeoff.’

Commenting on how good Prue looks for her age, one viewer joked: ‘Prue is 80?! She looks amazing! Proof that cakes and bakes are good for you #GBBO #bakeoff.’

‘Prue is 80?! Looking good girl! #GBBO,’ tweeted one shocked fan, as another thought they had misheard her.

‘Sorry. Did Prue just say 80??? #bakeoff #GBBO,’ they quizzed.

One more viewer was just as floored, as they tweeted: ‘Prue is EIGHTY?!?!?!?!?!?! THOUGHT SHE WAS IN HER 60S WTFFF #bakeoff.’

Bake Off has just been one big age revelation after the other, as fans were equally shocked last week when they found out Noel Fielding was pushing 50.

Host Noel was seen showing his age when he started referencing ’80s children’s TV series Emu’s All Live Pink Windmill, which featured Rod Hull and his Emu puppet running their own television station, with his co-presenter Matt Lucas.

The younger bakers in the tent were left a little confused by the reference, with Matt joking: ‘Yeah, that joke only works if you’re over 45.’

Cue the frantic Google searches to find out Noel’s age and, well, fans couldn’t believe that he is 47 and Matt is just a year younger at 46.

Elsewhere in Tuesday night’s show, viewers saw the bakers take on a signature cheesecake challenge, before creating a jelly art design cake for their show-stopper challenge.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
