Great British Bake Off fans were left outraged after Hermine was robbed of a Paul Hollywood handshake after presenting her ‘perfect’ jelly showstopper.
The 39-year-old contestant was named star baker and made it into next week’s semi-final after wowing the judges with her stunning chocolate and raspberry mousse, completed with a red flower etched into the jelly.
First impressions were pretty outstanding, with Paul describing Hermine’s creation as ‘beautiful’ and ‘absolutely gorgeous.’
Echoing similar sentiments, Prue Leith agreed, and branded her efforts as ‘perfect’ and a ‘real triumph’.
Despite all this, Hermine didn’t receive one of Paul’s notorious handshakes – and fans were fuming. What more did she have to do?!
‘How has Hermine not getting a handshake?! She was robbed last week of 1 and now this week!! @PaulHollywood should have pulled his finger out his peach melba and shook that woman’s hand twice!!’ vented one viewer on Twitter.
Meanwhile, another added: ‘Is Paul Hollywood rationing the handshakes this year?! Hermine’s cake in the showstopper was unbelievable.’
Although this year’s Bake Off has been filmed amid the coronavirus pandemic, Paul has still been giving out his famous handshakes.
Lottie received the first honour of the series in September after she impressed the judge with her florentines. But otherwise, they have been lacking.
While Hermine came out on top during last night’s Dessert Week, Marc was eliminated from the competition.
‘I came to Bake Off to face my anxiety, to face failure, to face all those things that people are quite uncomfortable about dealing with,’ he said upon his exit.
‘I’ve definitely learnt a bit more about myself.’
Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
