Great British Bake Off star Laura Adlington has spoken about her time on the show, saying she’s ‘embarrassed’ to have made it to the semi-final.
Laura is one of the four bakers left in the competition, going up against Peter, Hermine and Dave in the tent this evening.
Laura emerged as one of the strongest bakers in the early stages of this year’s show. However, a few difficult moments during Japanese Week and 80s Week caused Laura to ‘doubt herself’ and convince herself she’d be going home.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Laura said: ‘I was never worried about getting to a certain point, I just wanted to do my best.’
She added: ‘If anything, I felt embarrassed at getting so far, as I didn’t feel like I deserved it.’
Despite these reservations, Laura also spoke about her experiences on Bake Off making her ‘more confident in her own skin’.
She said: ‘Before going on Bake Off, I was terrified of being trolled because of my weight, but the vast majority of comments have been positive and the support I’ve had has been overwhelming.
‘It’s definitely made me more confident in my own skin and realise there are good people in the world.’
It comes after Laura hit back at cruel trolls recently by telling them she’s a ‘human being with feelings’. Mean viewers asked how she’s still in the competition after the 31-year-old baker was saved despite a kitchen nightmare with her ice cream cake, while Lottie was sent home.
‘How does Laura keep scraping through,’ one social media user wrote, to which she responded: ‘I honestly don’t know mate. It really is a wonder.’
The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
