Great British Bake Off’s Jurgen was eliminated from the beloved Channel 4 series in tonight’s tense semi-final.
Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood opted to send Chigs, Crystelle and Giuseppe through to battle it out for the winning title in next week’s final after impressing in patisserie week.
Sadly though, it was the end of the road for Jurgen with comedian Matt Lucas having the unfortunate job of revealing the news to him.
‘I feel kind of ok,’ Jurgen said upon hearing the verdict. ‘I kind of saw it coming. I think the others are more shocked than I am.’
He continued: ‘It’s been incredible. I’ve really enjoyed being here, I’ve made friends for life and I will be with them in spirit.’
Jurgen’s co-stars had nothing but praise for him though, with Crystelle branding him an ‘inspiration’ and one of the most ‘incredible bakers ever’.
Meanwhile, Noel Fielding announced that Crystelle was star baker.
Announcing the coveted title with her loved ones on the phone, she said: ‘Not good news, you’re not going to see me for another week because I got star baker!’
‘I know! Guys, I’m in the final!’
It was a tough week for Jurgen, who was snubbed of a handshake from Paul Hollywood in the Signature despite him dishing out three to the fellow contestants.
Acknowledging the blow, Jurgen said: ‘There were three handshakes in the tent and I didn’t get one…
‘Bottom line is, I’m in trouble now.’
Although Jurgen appeared to redeem himself by coming first place in the Technical, the green hue of his Showstopper fell flat and left Paul and Prue underwhelmed.
Great British Bake Off concludes on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
