Great British Bake Off viewers were up in arms tonight after Paul Hollywood gave all the semi-final contestants a handshake apart from Jurgen following the Signature Challenge.
The judge was seriously impressed by Chigs, Crystelle, and Giuseppe’s delicate layered slices and awarded them with his coveted shake, however, Jurgen was snubbed of the accolade.
‘I like it but I don’t love it,’ Paul said as he critiqued Jurgen’s offering.
Prue Leith was more enthralled though, adding: ‘Pity I’m not the one who hands out handshakes. I would have given you one.’
Presenter Noel Fielding then swept in to offer Jurgen a double handshake as Paul apologised for rejecting him.
‘There were three handshakes in the tent and I didn’t get one…’ Jurgen later told the camera. ‘Bottom line is, I’m in trouble now.’
Viewers expressed their heartache at Jurgen’s rejection and rushed to Twitter to comment.
‘JURGS WAS THE ONLY ONE WITHOUT A HANDSHAKE?!!!! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS,’ screamed one.
Echoing a similar sentiment, another fumed: ‘About to file a report to Ofcom because Jurgen not getting a handshake has broken my heart.’

Luckily though, Jurgen redeemed himself in the Technical Challenge after wowing Paul and Prue with his creations.
‘What a relief, I certainly will sleep better tonight,’ he said.
But sadly, Jurgen’s success was not to last as he was soon eliminated by Paul and Prue ahead of the final.
‘I feel kind of ok,’ Jurgen admitted upon hearing the news. ‘I kind of saw it coming. I think the others are more shocked than I am.’
Great British Bake Off concludes next week at 8pm on Channel 4.
