The Great British Bake Off’s most wholesome contestant Jurgen Krauss left fans uncomfortable after producing his bread baby showstopper on Tuesday night.

Jurgen has taken the competition by storm so far, having won two Star Baker accolades.

Last night, he didn’t have quite the unrivalled success of his first two weeks but sailed through to another round of baking fun.

But one of his creations didn’t go down quite so well with those tuning in at home, leaving fans unable to sleep.

Towards the end of the latest instalment, the remaining contestants were tasked with making a slightly unusual Showstopper.

They had to create a themed display using milk bread, using milk in the dough instead of water.

Jurgen decided to go for a baby milk bread Showstopper, which was dubbed ‘terrifying’ by viewers.

One commented on Twitter: ‘I love Jurgen but that bread baby is terrifying.’

‘Tonight, I will sleep fitfully and it will all be the fault of my Jurgen bread baby nightmare. #gbbo,’ said another.

A third echoed: ‘I may have nightmares about Jurgen’s milk bread baby.’

Another said: ‘Not sure how I feel about Jurgen’s Baby on an Autopsy Table showstopper, tbh.’

Fans also had strong reactions to seeing judge Paul Hollywood slice the bread baby’s leg off…

Away from Jurgen’s bread-based madness, there was a new recipient of the Star Baker award this week.

Italian contestant Giuseppe Dell’Anno received the first ‘Hollywood Handshake’ of 2021, and was left emotional after Paul rewarded his efforts with the sought-after gesture.

The Hollywood handshake came after the Giuseppe wowed with his focaccia bread in the first task of the night, before continuing to impress later on.

Paul couldn’t resist making a joke about the baker’s slight edge, saying: ‘An Italian winning a ciabatta challenge, who would have thought it?’

He cheekily added: ‘The two challenges play in his favour!’

This week’s edition saw Rochica become the second baker to have to depart the tent.

Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
