Great British Bake Off star Laura Adlington has launched a new podcast, aimed at empowering people to feel good about themselves and their bodies.
Go Love Yourself sees GBBO 2020 finalist Laura and her best friend Lauren Smith tackle body image, confidence, diet-culture and all things self-love on a journey to self-acceptance, as they look to unlearn body image rules and diet myths.
The lovable baker was dubbed the most ‘relatable’ contestant ever on the show, but recently revealed that the online hate she received while on GBBO made her feel like she’d ‘murdered someone’.
Topics covered on the podcast will range from mental health to social media, and reality TV to toxic masculinity.
Special guests on the series, with one joining each episode, include comedian Sofie Hagan, who will share her own personal struggles and wins with body image.
Laura, who admitted she’d considered a gastric sleeve ahead of her TV debut, explained: ‘When I was thrust into the public eye, although I received a lot of support, I also experienced a lot of awful comments about how I look.
‘I always believed that the least interesting thing about people is how they look, so these comments – from strangers – really rocked me.’
Revealing that finding a community that showed her everyone has a right to body confidence, she continued: ‘That’s what I hope Go Love Yourself will create. We want to help people challenge the body rules they grew up with, and live their best life in the skin they’re in.’
The 32-year-old former digital manager now counts Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke among her celebrity fans.
Co-host Lauren added: ‘So many people, especially women, are on a really tumultuous journey to body acceptance and true self-confidence. I know the same has been true of me.’
Now, she says: ‘Life’s too short not to feel positive, confident and sexy!’
Go Love Yourselfwill be available from January 18 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and all other podcast platforms.
