The Great British Bake Off star Sura Selvarajah admitted she’s had ‘nightmares about cake’ following this week’s episode – with many viewers sad to see her go.
Sura became the fourth contestant to be eliminated from the Channel 4 series earlier this week, after failing to impress the judges during chocolate week.
She notably made a stir in the very first episode of this year’s series, when she swatted a fly circling her upside-down pineapple cakes, but accidentally sent Dave’s cakes flying, as they later tumbled onto the ground.
And although the pharmacy dispenser later went on to win the technical challenge, she revealed she couldn’t help but feel a bit bad.
Appearing on An Extra Slice, she told host Jo Brand: ‘I was heartbroken for Dave. I was actually praying that Dave would win.
‘To me it was just, I had knocked it over, please God, let him win so he feels a little bit better.’
Guest panellist Steph McGovern later added: ‘I feel bad now because I totally thought you did it on purpose.’
‘You and half the nation,’ Sura responded. ‘It’s fine.’
Sura later admitted to having ‘nightmares’ about judge Paul Hollywood after doing a pretty bad job with a chocolate babka in the recent episode.
She explained: ‘I had a nightmare and I woke up at 3 o’clock and I was like, “That went really badly”.
‘I had numerous nightmares while we were in the hotel and prior to that I used to have nightmares about Paul kicking me out because I overslept and didn’t turn up.’
Viewers later took to social media to express their sadness at the fact that this will be the last time they see Sura on Bake Off, with many agreeing she has left too soon.
One tweeted: ‘Love Sura #GBBO #extraslice she went too soon.’
While another weighed in: ‘Sura owl-eyes is just brilliant I miss her already and we haven’t seen a #BakeOff ep without her yet.’
‘Sura should never have been eliminated,’ one other tweet read.
In tonight’s edition, we also caught a glimpse of Sura walking her adorable pet cat Ghost on a lead, with the star later explaining why she has chosen to do this.
‘I worry, I don’t want him to get lost,’ she said. ‘We live in a flat, so if he’s gone, he’s gone.’
When asked by Jo if Ghost was ‘pleased’ to see her when she returned home, Sura surprisingly responded: ‘No.’
She continued: ‘I felt like he resented me a little bit, because he didn’t sit next to me, he wouldn’t come cuddle with me, usually when I’m coming home from work he’s meowing from the window.’
The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
