Annie has been crowned the winner of the Great British Sewing Bee 2022.
The 32-year-old fashion buyer from Surrey made it through 10 weeks of tough sewing challenges and beat Brogan, Debra, and Man Yee in an incredibly close and nail-biting final episode.
‘I just wasn’t prepared for it at all, it was definitely a shock, but a nice one, absolutely,’ Annie said of her win.
‘I think we were all so focused on the challenges week by week, the final came so quickly!! It was a surreal feeling to get to the final for all of us. I really didn’t expect to win.’
In the grand finale, the remaining sewers were tasked by judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant to follow a pattern for an amorphous dress, made from a single piece of elastene and manipulated into shape with a connection of D-rings.
They were then presented with all their scraps from the previous weeks, from which they had to create a party outfit, before fitting a made-to-measure red-carpet jumpsuit to their models.
Patrick and Esme revealed that it was Annie’s showstopping jumpsuit that paved the way for her win.
‘It was such a stunning sew – it was knockout,’ Patrick enthused.
Esme added: ‘It was so dramatic, and of course a great big bow!’
Annie has been awarded the title of Britain’s Best Amateur Sewer of 2022 and was handed the all important trophy.
‘It will absolutely take centre stage in my front room, I haven’t won anything before!’ she enthused.
‘It’s amazing I can now have it out for everyone to see. I have been hiding it in my sewing cupboard, so it has been safe and out of sight.’
Talking about her time on Sewing Bee, Annie said she has made lots of new friends and learned new skills.
‘I would say to anyone who wants to apply for a future series, to just go for it, put yourself outside of your sewing comfort zone, trust the process and you won’t regret it,’ she continued.
Great British Sewing Bee is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
