Great New Year Bake Off’s Rahul Mandal shocks viewers with ‘weird’ butter eating habit

Great New Year Bake Off viewers have been cheering on ‘adorable’ contestant Rahul Mandal, even after he revealed a very strange habit on the show.

The 2018 winner revealed that he eats butter straight from the pack while appearing on the show, and viewers could not deal with it.

Rahul is one of the former stars of the show returning to the tent for the special, trying to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

The festive episode, filmed earlier earlier this year in line with public health guidelines during the pandemic, also saw former bakers Helena Garcia, Henry Bird and Nancy Birtwhistle take on the challenge.

However, it was Rahul who won over viewers all over again – and grossed them out in equal measure.

The 2018 winner prepared a crumble, a shredded duck bao bun and a birthday cake on the show, but it was his butter eating habit that had viewers in shock.

Rahul snacked on butter during the show, and even admitted that he preferred it to chocolate.

‘Watching Rahul eat butter right off the block… I love the man, but that’s weird,’ one wrote.

Another said: ‘Rahul I love you as a baker but I can’t get over that you eat butter over chocolate.’

His eating habits might be a little strange, but viewers still had so much time for Rahul on the show.

‘Strong, strong #GBBO line-up, and between Henry and Rahul, the “adorable” factor is off the scale. Strong and adorable,’ one wrote, while other called for Rahul to be given his own show.

The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on All 4.
