Greg Rutherford provided an update on his condition after being transported to the hospital over the weekend.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, 36, was screaming in anguish and clawed at his flesh before passing out on Saturday.
Due to a 40-minute wait for an ambulance during what was thought to be an allergic reaction, his girlfriend Susie Verrill had to drive the former track and field athlete to the hospital.
Blogger Susie took to Instagram afterwards and detailed how her spouse slipped into a delusional condition before arriving to hospital and being ‘pumped full of steroids and antihistamines’.
Greg has now provided another update on what transpired, first thanking everyone for their offers of support.
‘Just to say a big thanks to everybody for reaching out and sending well wishes, and everything else,’ he said in an Instagram Story.
‘I’m much better today. I still have itches on my skin but nothing obviously like yesterday at all. All the rash has gone away now which is great.
‘I went to see the doctor again today to get some stronger antihistamines just in case it happened again.’
He added: ‘So it’s now just going to be a case of figuring out what it was and hopefully never happening again.
‘But I do really appreciate everyone that’s reached out to me and to Susie.
‘Hopefully it doesn’t happen again because it was horrific, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.’
Susie uploaded a photo of her boyfriend, with whom she has kids Milo, eight, and Rex, five, and a two-year-old daughter Daphne, in a hospital bed a few days ago, and described what happened as “quite literally the scariest period of my life.”
She received a call from Greg while visiting a friend, claiming he was experiencing an allergic reaction and felt itchy, but he phoned her again two minutes later crying for help.
‘He was clawing at his skin and just screaming. Repeatedly. He ran to our car and while I rang 999 again to say I’d have to take him, we had to run every red light and I had to focus on not crashing while he screamed and tried to grab the wheel…,’ she recalled.
Quickly being treated, Greg was soon back to normal, and later shared online that he ‘never wanted to experience’ that pain again.
‘I was trying to get my skin off it was so bad,’ he explained.
Greg, an Olympic gold medalist in the long jump in London in 2012, was on the 14th season of Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, when he was eliminated in week nine.
He won the 14th season of Celebrity MasterChef in 2019.
