Gyles Brandreth wore a plaster on his face during his appearance on This Morning because he was suffering from something he called ‘mask-nose’.
Appearing via video link on Tuesday’s instalment, Holly Willoughby asked Gyles why he was wearing a plaster on his nose.
To which he simply explained that he was suffering with skin problems because of wearing a face mask all of the time.
‘I am suffering from something that’s apparently called mask-nose,’ explained.
‘According to a nurse that I know, a lot of people have got this now.’
Gyles went on to demonstrate how he got the ‘mask-nose’ by putting a face covering on.
He continued: ‘Wearing a mask, the little ridge at the top here rubs against it, and apparently all over the country people are having complexion problems.
‘Not wishing to go into too much detail, but a little spot emerged there and I tried to take it off and blood spurted out.’
‘Apparently, people under their masks, take off their masks and they have pimples everywhere,’ he added.
‘It’s been a nightmare for people complexion-wise.’
Gyles may call it ‘mask-nose’ but over the past few months, many people have been suffering with ‘maskne’.
Maskne is mask-induced acne and it causes redness and irritation on the skin but we are not used to wearing face masks.
During the pandemic, there has been a lot of controversy over whether wearing a face-covering prevents the transmission of coronavirus, and whether the general public should be wearing them while leaving the house.
At the end of July, it became mandatory for face masks and coverings to be worn in all shops and on public transport.
People could face fines and the police could even be called if anyone enters shops without them.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
