Haim to compose soundtrack for Netflix film The Witch Boy

Haim are set to provide the soundtrack for the upcoming Netflix animated film The Witch Boy.

The band’s involvement with the project was announced on The Most, which is the official Twitter account for Netflix’s LGBTQ+ content.

The account confirmed the film was in production, adding the synopsis: ‘In a world where girls are born witches and boys shapeshifters, a young boy named Aster discovers his own witch abilities and embarks on an adventure to defeat a mysterious evil.’

‘Oh, and original music from HAIM!!’ the post added.

The Witch Boy is directed by the Oscar-nominated Minkyu Lee, who previously worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6 and Adam and Dog.

Minkyu said in a statement: ‘My hope is that this film, by celebrating queerness & ‘otherness,’ will come to audiences around the world as something truly special.’

The Witch Boy is based on Molly Knox Osterag’s novel series of the same name. A release date has yet to be confirmed.

It’s not the first time Haim have written original music for films, having provided the track Feel The Thunder for The Croods: The New Age.

Him, made up of three sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim, released their debut album Days are Gone in 2013. Their most recent album, Women In Music Pt.III, was released in 2020.
