*Warning: This article contains spoilers from Happy Valley series 3, episode 5.*
The first trailer for the series finale of Happy Valley has arrived, and it does not seem promising.
In the previous episode, Tommy Le Royce (James Norton) found a way to get in touch with Ryan (Rhys Connah) even though he was on the run by searching for his son’s gaming ID on a console.
Exactly how did he manage to track out that identification? Ryan is sure that he did not provide his gaming ID to Tommy, leading fans to believe that Neil Ackroyd (Con O’Neill) was responsible.
Tommy admitted that, after he killed Sergeant Catherine Cawood, he and Ryan would leave the country and establish a new life in Marbella (Sarah Lancashire).
The season finale will thus be a long episode in the series’ usual vein, and it’s quite doubtful that everyone will survive.
The first trailer depicts Catherine sobbing after learning that Tommy is now free and is planning to harm her and Ryan.
The police are questioning Ryan, who they want to know about his most recent interactions with Tommy. Will he reveal all to them, though? Unlikely.
Even more disturbing is a scene in which police officers are shown running from the station, followed by a close-up of Ryan, and Catherine is overheard saying, “He’s still out there, he’s going to be angry and he’s going to be even more desperate and dangerous.”
In all likelihood, the police are making their way to the scene of Catherine and Tommy’s final confrontation.
Images from the final episode of Happy Valley depict a devastated Catherine looking blankly as tears stream down her cheeks. In a similar fashion, Clare appears in a second image with her usual expression of bewilderment.
From the sounds of things, a distraught Ryan has made her way out of here in search of Tommy.
As the impending showdown between her and Tommy approaches, she looks back at old images, reminiscing happier times.
And the pharmacist Faisal Bhatti (Amit Shah) is understandably on edge after he murdered his next-door neighbour Joanna Hepworth (Mollie Winnard), put her body in a suitcase, and then framed her husband.
As it stands, Rob, her husband, is likely to be prosecuted, but Faisal hasn’t gotten away with anything just yet since the police are keen to find out who was unlawfully supplying her diazepam.
Happy Valley concludes Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
