Harry Hill shows off bizarre tribute to Queen to mark her Platinum Jubilee – and it’s an artistic masterpiece

Grayson’s Art Club has welcomed its fair share of whacky art in its time, but Harry Hill’s masterpiece for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has to be the weirdest we’ve seen yet.

Grayson Perry first started up his Art Club with his wife Philippa Perry to keep the public entertained during the first lockdown, and it certainly worked.

He’s attracted art from guests such as Bill Bailey and Joe Lycett in previous seasons, and another funnyman’s attempts will be featured in the upcoming special for the Queen.

Junior Bake Off host Harry sent in a very strange piece of work to be examined by Grayson and Philippa in tonight’s instalment.

In a clip ahead of the episode, Grayson tells his partner: ‘We’ve got a last-minute submission from Harry Hill.’

Of course, being Harry, it was soon revealed to be characteristically bonkers.

In the videotape, he outlined his plans for the tribute: ’Rather than doing a painting or a wood carving, which is my area of expertise, I’m going to attach some sponges to my lips and soak it in paint and move along a strip of paper.

‘As I move along, I’m going to say a personal message to HM The Queen.’

This involved Harry getting into paper overalls after he cut and attached two large pieces of sponge to his lips, to enable his creation.

He plonked his face down towards a small tub of black paint as he got on with his making his mark on a large piece of paper.

While smearing the paint across the sheet, Harry spoke the words: ‘Congratulations your Majesty on your Platinum Jubilee.’

Harry seemed pleased with his efforts, and concluded: ‘Obviously there will be other tributes but I think she’s going to be pretty pleased with that.’

It’s not the first time Harry has shouted about his love of art, having featured in the series when it first began in May 2020.

Harry said: ‘There’s an element of therapy about it. The great thing about art is that when I’m doing it, I’m completely in it and not thinking about anything else.

‘I get that out of it and at the end, I get a “thing”. I don’t sell it, I’m not interested in exhibiting them.’

Dame Prue Leith will also feature in tonight’s episode, where she’ll make art based on the theme of The Queen.

Grayson’s Art Club: Jubilee Special airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
