Harry Potter reunion: Tearful Emma Watson comforted by Rupert Grint in emotional trailer

Emma Watson was left in tears in the first trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter reunion special.

The cast and crew of the Wizarding franchise recently got together to reminisce over their experience on set in Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which is airing on New Year’s Day.

Unsurprisingly, things became emotional between the gang, including Emma, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe, at times, as they discussed the films that shot them to superstardom.

‘It feels like no time has passed and loads of time has passed,’ the Hermione Granger actress exclaimed.

‘The thing that scared me the most was the implication that the most meaningful thing in our life was done,’ Daniel, who played the starring role of Harry Potter, told the camera.

‘There’s something so joyous about seeing everyone, and be like, it wasn’t though…

‘I wouldn’t be the person I am without so many people here.’

‘It’s a very overwhelming thing because I’ve watched you grow up, and I’ve seen every stage of your life,’ Rupert – aka Ron Weasley – could be heard saying.

‘When things get really dark, and times are really hard, there’s something about Harry Potter that makes life richer,’ Emma continued.

As she teared up, co-star Rupert reached out to embrace her, agreeing: ‘It’s a strong bond that we’ll always have.

The reunion will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first of the eight-part franchise – which hit cinemas in November, 2001.

A summary of the special reads: ‘The retrospective special will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.’

It will air on New Year’s Day with a whole host of fan favourites said to be making an appearance.

Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs and Gary Oldman are just some of the cast getting involved, with Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright and Alfred Enoch also taking a walk down memory lane.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is due to air on HBO Max, Sky TV and NOW on January 1.
