Warning: spoilers ahead for Hawkeye.
Many Hawkeye fans are convinced that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is going to show up in the episode 6 season finale on Disney Plus… with several clues pointing towards this hopeful idea actually becoming a reality.
Following the release date for Spider-Man: No Way Home, speculation has been rife concerning when the webslinger is going to show up next.
With talk of a potential fourth film about Tom’s version of Peter Parker in the works, several people believe that he’s going to make his next appearance much sooner.
Both Spider-Man and Hawkeye are set primarily in New York, the first clue that viewers could witness an epic on-screen superhero crossover on Disney’s streaming platform.
Given plenty of superheroes hail from the Big Apple, that connection is perhaps not the most convincing – but there are other hints that are worth noting.
In the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans spotted a newly renovated version of the Statue of Liberty holding Captain America’s famous shield aloft.
In episode five, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova referenced the tweaked monument while discussing the tourist spots that she wants to visit with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop.
In the comic books, Kingpin is a famous foe of Spider-Man, with the villain showing up in the animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Considering Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Wilson Fisk was confirmed last week, having first portrayed the character in the Netflix series Daredevil, some fans reckon the hero and the baddie could face one another in live-action.
To add even more fuel to the idea that Spider-Man will appear, in a recent Instagram post shared by Florence, the Little Women actor included an emoji of a spider’s web in her caption.
One fan speculated that Spider-Man will turn up in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment.
‘Yes I do believe #Spiderman will show up for the #Hawkeye finale BUT… I strongly think it will be a 5 second thing where Kate/Clint point up to sky and see him swing by, I don’t think he’ll join the fight (I think he’ll go by before fight even begins) just a theory!’ they wrote.
Another suspected that Yelena will tease Spider-Man ‘for being a poser’, just like she did with her sister Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in Black Widow.
Someone else said that if they see Spider-Man ‘swinging around in Hawkeye or even talking with Kate and Clint and Yelena’, they will lose their ‘f**king s**t’.
There are mere hours to go before we find out if this cameo does in fact occur.
Nonetheless, as Marvel fans have learnt with previous Disney Plus shows, some theories can often turn out to be just that.
Hawkeye is available to watch on Disney Plus.
