Heartstopper’s Kit Connor explains why he refuses to label sexuality

Heartstopper star Kit Connor refuses to label his sexuality despite the ongoing speculation.

The 18-year-old actor became a household name after the teen drama rocketed up the Netflix chart after Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring’s (Joe Locke) love story stole our hearts.

Due to the show’s authentic queer and trans storytelling, countless fans have felt inspired to come out to their own families, however, this has resulted in many questioning Kit’s sexuality, after his character came out as bisexual in the final episode.

Appearing on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, he explained: ‘I just think that there’s a danger with things on social media.

‘In the cast, we’re all young – I’m 18 – and we have a few people in their early twenties as well and to start speculating about our sexualities and maybe pressuring us to come out when maybe we’re not ready.’

The star – who recently expertly shut down all rumours on Twitter earlier this month – also addressed why he doesn’t feel the need to comment on his sexuality.

‘I mean, for me, I just feel like I’m perfectly confident and comfortable in my sexuality, but I’m not too big on labels and things like that,’ he continued.

‘I’m not massive about that. And I don’t feel like I need to label myself, especially not publicly.

‘It feels a bit strange to make assumptions about a person’s sexuality just based on hearing their voice or seeing their appearance. I feel like that’s a very interesting, slightly problematic sort of assumption to make.’

Elsewhere Yasmin Finney – who plays Charlie’s good friend Elle – recently called out transphobic comments after strangers made ignorant remarks towards her at a restaurant.

Taking to Twitter to share a recent incident, she posted a stunning mirror selfie in which she wears a black cut-out dress, with her hair styled in a sleek bob and make-up looking extra glam.

She wrote alongside the pic that a woman shouted at her ‘in front of peers’ while Yasmin was leaving a restaurant: ‘Are you a boy or a girl?’

‘Erm Idk what do I look like to you?’, Yasmin wrote, referencing the beautiful selfie.

Meanwhile, Heartstopper fans were over the moon as Netflix confirmed that the show has been renewed for a second and third series.

Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix.
