Hugh Grant has revealed he battled coronavirus in February and still has antibodies, as he detailed his symptoms this week.

The Undoing star revealed he and wife Anna Eberstein contracted the disease, sharing his symptoms that included a ‘poncho of sweat’.

Appearing via video on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hugh, 60, explained: ‘I had it, my wife and I had it way back in the winter, we have antibodies, I’m rather proud of them. So we’re not gonna get it, I don’t think.’

Hugh said he took an antibodies test a month ago, which confirmed he had contracted the condition.

Explaining his symptoms, he said: ‘It started as just a very strange syndrome where I kept breaking into a terrible sweat. It was like a poncho of sweat, embarrassing really.

‘Then my eyeballs felt about three sizes too big and this, a feeling as though an enormous man was sitting on my chest, Harvey Weinstein or someone.

‘Then I was walking down a street one day and I thought, “I can’t smell a damn thing” and you start to panic. By then people had started to talk about this as a symptom.

‘I started sniffing flowers; nothing. You get more and more desperate. I started sniffing garbage cans, you want to sniff strangers’ armpits because you cant smell anything.

‘I went home and sprayed my wife’s Chanel No 5 directly into my face, couldn’t smell a thing. I did go blind.’

Hugh, who shares three children with Anna, appeared from London where the city is currently under lockdown, and said he’s not too sure the city is embracing the lockdown regulations with the same ‘enthusiasm’ as earlier this year when the country was first plunged into strict restrictions.

Saying he’s never seen the streets ‘more thronged with people’, he went on: ‘You virtually have to form a line to get onto Piccadilly.

‘Every shop seems to think it is in fact, essential. Florists are open.’

Hugh currently stars in The Undoing – a HBO miniseries about a wealthy New York City couple whose idyllic lives are turned upside-down after a fancy school fundraiser goes horribly wrong.

Nicole, 53, plays therapist Grace, and Hugh stars as her husband Jonathan.

The Big Little Lies star told The Graham Norton Show that her relationship with Hugh outside the show made it easy to slip into the role of husband and wife – but that she was surprised he’d even signed up for the darn thing in the first place.

Nicole said: ‘I’ve always wanted to work with him, and I have always been a big fan. When the director suggested him, I thought he would never do it because he is famous for not wanting to work.

‘He says he doesn’t like working but he is so good when he does – he is amazing.’

But Nicole couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at her co-star, adding: ‘He has a lot of children now who he has to support!’
