Former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! winner Dougie Poynter has revealed he can’t ‘give any advice’ to the 2020 campmates.
The McFly guitarist, who won the ITV show in 2011, spoke to Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy ahead of the new series, which begins tonight.
‘Dougie, you’ve been in the jungle, you’ve won it, what’s the tips, what do you have to do to win the jungle,’ Tim asked.
‘Honestly, I couldn’t give anyone any advice,’ Dougie explained via video link.
‘All I did that entire time was hung out in a hammock and smoked a lot of cigarettes.’
‘Then I won, so I can’t really offer any advice at all,’ he added.
Dougie recently opened up about how he struggled with alcohol and substance abuse early in his career.
On McFly: All About Us, which aired last night, the bassist said that he was struggling without his bandmates Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd, believing: ‘My band’s broken and it’s all my fault.’
He began taking Valium as ‘a way of just making all that disappear’, but his bandmates soon noticed that something was very wrong.
During the programme, Danny explained: ‘He went from being quite sketchy to being super chill, like almost dribbling and I was like, “There’s something wrong man”.’
Harry, also 34, said: ‘I said to him, “Don’t freak out mate, but I know you’re taking something. Is everything OK?”
‘And he sort of told me what he’d been taking. He was like, at that lethal dosage.’
McFly: All About Us is available on the ITV Hub 6.40pm and Sunday Brunch returns on Sunday on Channel 4.
